About MCD

Building Stronger Families and Communities Since 1999

Founded in 1999 as a faith-based community initiative, Metropolitan Community Development (MCD) has worked for more than 25 years to strengthen individuals, families, and communities throughout Metro Atlanta. As needs have changed, MCD has grown with them, always focused on creating opportunities for self-sufficiency, stronger families, and brighter futures.

Beginning

MCD was founded on a simple belief: real community development means caring for the whole person and the whole family. Early programs focused on education, family relations, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, giving people the tools they needed to build stable, self-sufficient lives.

From the start, MCD knew that real impact takes partnership. Working alongside Atlanta Metropolitan Cathedral and U-Rescue Village, MCD built relationships with Safe House Atlanta, nursing homes, county jails, schools, and colleges and universities.

A Legacy of Service Beyond Atlanta

MCD's commitment to service reached beyond Atlanta as well. The organization supported missionaries in Brazil, Australia and South Africa for international service work.

These experiences shaped a belief that still guides MCD today: strong communities are built when people serve, collaborate, and invest in one another.

Evolving to Meet Today's Needs

As Metro Atlanta has grown, so has MCD. In recent years, that growth has included a partnership with LaAmistad, an Atlanta organization that provides after-school academic support to Latino students and families.

Today, MCD's work centers on two areas:

  • Youth Development gives young people the chance to explore STEM, engineering, artificial intelligence, medical careers, leadership, mentoring, and college and career paths.
  • Community Engagement supports families through programs for mothers, fathers, and seniors, plus health and wellness, financial literacy, workforce development, mental wellness, and economic opportunity.

Our programs keep evolving, but our purpose hasn't changed: helping individuals gain the knowledge, confidence, relationships, and opportunities to build stronger futures.

Mission

To strengthen families and communities through leadership development, workforce readiness, STEM education, mentoring, health awareness, and economic empowerment for youth, adults, and seniors across Metro Atlanta.

Vision

Transforming lives and families, equipping the next generation to lead.

Commitment

For more than two decades, MCD has shown that lasting community development comes from relationships, service, education, opportunity, and partnership.

Looking ahead, MCD remains committed to bringing together families, educators, businesses, community organizations, government, and volunteers to expand opportunity across Metro Atlanta.

Our history is rooted in service. Our work is focused on people. Our future is about preparing the next generation to lead.
